iTunes
Market giant iTunes lets users find and organise music, import CDs, download music and create playlists seamlessly.
It sells more than three million songs.
The podcast revolution, which lets listeners download online radio shows and store them in their MP3 players for free, was sparked by iTunes, which now carries more than 15,000 podcasts.
Pandora
Calling itself a 'music discovery service', pandora.com is designed to allow users to find musicians similar to the ones they love.
A streaming station is created to play songs musically similar to the ones the user lists and users are able to buy the track they are listening to with just one click of the mouse.
Musicmatch
A cross between iTunes and Pandora, Yahoo!'s Musicmatch offers downloads and a 'music matching' system that gives personalised recommendations based on the music you listen to and other users with similar tastes.
Just like iTunes, Musicmatch lets listeners buy individual songs and whole albums, organise them into playlists and download them onto portable players.
Last.Fm
Last.fm has been touted as the Friendster of online streaming networks.
It not only allows users to listen to audio streams and playlists as well as find similar musicians through a music matching system, but also gives users a personal profile where they can upload pictures and share information about themselves.
These profile pages also list friends, groups and 'musical neighbours', who are people detected by Last.fm as having similar music tastes.
