Video blogs, or so-called vlogs, are blogs that are mainly used
for posting videos online. You can use normal blogs created with
Blogger and WordPress.com to create vlogs, although you will likely
have to purchase more blog storage space for your videos.
WordPress.com requires you to pay at least US$20 (about S$30) a
year before you can upload videos or music.
Like normal blogs, you can choose whether or not the videos you
post are viewable by everyone or only to a selected few.
First, decide which videos you want to share with the world,
whether it is a long movie shot with a portable video camera,
short clips taken with your mobile phone, or videos of yourself
taken from a web camera attached to your PC or laptop. Then, you
need to make sure your videos are in a format other people can
easily view, as well as not being too large in storage size.
For example, WordPress.com only accepts common video formats
such as avi, mov, mp4 and WMV. If your videos are not already in
one of these formats, you will have to convert them into a
compatible format.
There are numerous software programmes you can download from the
Internet, legal and free of charge, to help you do this, such as
Any Video Converter (www.any-video-converter.com/download-avc-free.php).
The good news is if you take most of your videos using your
mobile phone, it will usually be in a format compatible with your
vlog. Also, many mobile phones offer the option to upload videos
directly to vlogs via 3G mobile broadband or Wi-Fi wireless
Internet connections.
However, another way to share videos online is to upload your
movies to video-sharing website YouTube. If you already have an
account with one of Google's services such as the free e-mail and
photo services, Gmail and Picasa, you can use it with YouTube,
although you can just as easily create a brand-new account.
People who search for you on YouTube can easily see what videos
you are sharing, and when you have uploaded them. They can also
leave comments on your videos. People with YouTube accounts can
also subscribe to your YouTube posts so that whenever you upload a
new video, they will be automatically notified.
