Wireless@SG is a wireless broadband programme that allows you to surf the Internet for free in more than 7,400 hotspots(as of August 2008) around Singapore, at speeds of up to 512 kbps. To connect to the network, all you need is a Wi-Fi enabled notebook or PDA, web browser and a registered Wireless@SG account. You can subscribe to Wireless@SG with any of the three wireless operators that are supporting the initiative – iCell, QMax or SingTel.

The “hide SSID” myth was debunked as far back as Dec 2003 by Robert Moskowitz, a senior technical director at ICSA Labs.

Freely available tools like Netstumbler will list all nearby wi-fi routers regardless of their SSID status. In addition, your own wireless devices that are broadcasting in an effort to connect to your "hidden" router are also giving away your SSID. What's worse is the possibility that your "hidden" signal is overpowered by an evil twin's broadcast.

In short, rename your SSID but don't disable it.

Check out this link for more information: http://blogs.technet.com/steriley/archive/2007/10/16/myth-vs-reality-wireless-ssids.aspx
